Final Portfolio

Basically my portfolio is about my major, I am going for digital media but basically i want to go for Photography, i haven't yet taken a photography class yet here at nccc but i plan on it next year since it will be my last year. Hopefully i want to transfer to a four year school such as UB or Buffalo state to move toward my goal. I have loved photography every since i was little and got my first camera. This year in Web Technology class i have learned some pretty interesting things such as creating my own websites and learning about different facts in the text book. I recommend this class to anyone it will be very helpful. My photography in my portfolio contains black and white and colored pictures, i love to take black and white pictures. edit them and make them look sharper. For my career in the  future i want to work for someone as a side job or maybe start my own business but yet i know that it is alot of work to start your own business. Basically on my contacts page of my portfolio i added my GMail which is Krstkn9@GMail.com and i didn't put any personal information such as my personal facebook page or my phone number or address i added my resume without my personal information also my education such as college experience and my recent jobs and my volunteer work also.

My video is yet to be completed but i am working on it to make it ready for show, my tutorial will just be a jing due to the lack of people in my group so i will just be doing my own tutorial where i will talk about how second life works and what you can do with and how you interact with others and like i said in blog 2 i will just be showing everyone how to pretty much interact with your machinima.

#16 Buliding My Digital Portfolio

How to plan on building my digital portfolio, my career consists of photography in some sort of way. I would like to either have my own business or on the side. Some of the programs that i learned to help me move forwards towards my career such as Jing, Jing helps you capture and image in your computer screen and save it. I would use a great deal of knowledge from my text book for my career such as knowing about the spam and viruses that come about on your computer that you don't even know about, and also hoe it explained about the different little  things that i did not know before.
   I am going to use Word press and maybe a couple more sites that will help me work towards my portfolio.

There are other Internet traffic and information which is called peering. Chapter 3 131-151

 Browser searches as we learned in a previous chapter, address bar searches. Its pretty simple to look things up how a days. All you have to do is pretty much type what you want in am address bar and it will automatically search for you. There are many different options that you can choose from would be if you wanted to go click on the more advanced address bar. Specialized searches are what people use for a business search such as white and yellow pages directory. There are news and current event searches such as Msn, yahoo,and major news wire. Services such as the Associated press, UPI and more. Your video and social media searches would be examples of Google video, clip blast, and yahoo video.  There are many specialized search engines sometimes called social media categories such as technology, google blog search, digg and newsvine are used to search resources.

Technologies & Security

Networking Basics as you know is a computer network that makes it possible to share data with each other and networks resources such as an Internet connection. Local area networks that are discussed before in a recent chapter is a computer network supporting users in a small geographical area. Each user that has an Internet connection on a LAN is called a node, these nodes are configured to a peer to peer client. IN metropolitan area, networks, they connect to servers and clients that is larger than a single office or building. There are many types of topologies which is a connection to all nodes on a peer LAN with a single cable. There is another which is called ring and star topology which both connect to a separate node to a central device or hub that transmits or passes directly to that destination. Another technique we also learned about in another chapter would be transmission media, this is a network that is a cable and wireless media such as coaxial twisted pair and fiber optic cable infrared transmissions, one example of that would be a blue tooth that RF technology that sends and receives wireless between devices.

There are many sites for mostly everything you need such as health, diet,and fitness information. With the amount of Obesity in the United States health care costs are increasing in price. If you are looking for a general diet and fitness information online, however you choose from hundreds of websites. To explore health related sites for diets to control your grocery lists and make exercise routines. There are tons of entertainment hobbies, and other special- interesting web sites and they offer something for everyone. If you make a recipe for your family to entertain you can go to many websites to look for a great recipe that goes well with your entertainment. There are many great sites to find food recipes such as Emeril.com, Vegetarian times and etc... Investing online is quick and simple, web sites empower many people to handle their own information. Web sites such as Investing Online Resources Center, they can help by providing tips on how to select on online broker and how to open an online account. Education Tools, many people use these online tools, such as web based learning, also called online learning opportunities everywhere you go basically, you can find them in schools kinder garden through 12th grade in high school. Online employment Training and professional development, businesses use employment training online. For example i just had two days of employment training for my new job and i had to do a program off the computer to show me how to use the cash register and to do transactions before you actually use the real thing. It was very helpful. Downloading paid content  such as music, software, sometimes can not be shared due to agreeing to join the account and purchasing items.

Chapter 5 Getting More Out of the Internet

Portals in a previous chapter we learned about how a single web based interface to a company's general business information, Intranet,and Extranet is a portal. There is a such thing as vertical and Industry portals, they are sometimes called vortals provide the gateway for visitors with their interests such as gardening, woman's interests, children's activities, social issues. Corporate portals are also called enterprise information portals. The employees customers vender's, mainly for business information, and customization. News's, sports, weather, and traffic resources they became a source of readily accessible information, most people used newspaper magazines, radio, and television to stay informed about current events. To explore news and traffic web sites. You can find the latest news and information on traffic and sports sites. To streaming media, many news's sites such as CNN.com, they put video clips of games highlights and then the Radio web sites provide clips which is delivered from a web server to a web browser is called streaming Media. There are online encyclopedias that you are probably familiar with, with an Internet connection, you can access a number of online encyclopedia's such as encyclopedia.com, and etc... There is also a thing on the Internet in which you can find words that you don't know the definition, they are called online dictionaries. There are many online planners for example if your planning a trip you can go to Google Maps, or Yahoo! Maps or Expedia.com to look up different things for planning your trip. A site such as Map quest or Free trip, you type in your state and the address and you should receive all you information.

Chapter 4 Communicating Online

Text messaging and chatting can be easy to some people but difficult to others because some people were not born into that generation. The chat mainly allows two or more people to exchange text or pictures in a real time. A web based browser instead of a special chat client. Social networking is and example were people gather and express feelings and get to know each other and participate in activities of common interest, they are involved. For example some sites that are very popular are Facebook, myspace, Friendster,twitter, bebo, and more. Facebook has become one of the most used forms of a social networking sites around. Everyone uses it to keep in touch, transfer pictures and emails, see family and friends, it's larger than life and it's going to keep getting larger and larger.

Chapter 4 Communicating Online

Emailing can be simple but their are some setbacks to having your own email, its called Junk a Mail    (email) also know as SPAM, because emailing is so inexpensive, advertisement, peoples businesses can show up in your spam( in your email) and yes it very unwanted and some people just ignore it and move on,some people don't know that some spam can cause you viruses and that can ruin your computer. You can set your junk mail to off as you click the options bar. By moving and deleting is very simple also, there are some easy steps to do as follows, by using Yahoo mail, it allows you to move your messages to a different folder. Your social media today they are many different tools to connect. Connected individuals interact with family and friends. There are many groups and web based discussion groups, for example a local bulletin board discusses a network called newsgroups, they are online bulletin boards first made  available in the 1980's over the distributed user net network.

Chapter 4 Communicating Online

In chapter 4 i learned about Managing Messages is one of the many organizations that you could use to manage your messages easier, such as emailing your friends, family, and business associates. Windows mail has come out with a more simple way for you to send email, create folders and deleting messages and creating rules. With creating a new message by opening windows mail and opening an inbox folder. To move a message from the inbox folder into the assignment. It is very simple. Contacts are also very easy to use to create you do the following to open the windows contacts folder and click the contacts folder and click the contacts button which is also on the toolbar. Just click the new contact button on the toolbar to open the new contacts properties dialog box. It's that simple, just click okay. Editing and Deleting contacts with and easy click and your done. You might need to edit the contacts information to update the users email or addresses by doing that double clicking the windows contacts folder to open the contacts properties dialog box.

Second Life part 1

In Second Life Part 1 we learned how to create an avatar in which you can change their clothes and their accessories. We discovered how to chat with other avatars and how to teleport around to different areas. There are stores in which you can buy things if you have the money, and i have not learned about getting money yet but i will soon learn how to. Also there are stores where you can get free things such as costumes and free weird things such as glowing lights and things you can carry around.

Communicating

Communicating Online is much easier when it comes to email, messaging, chatting and more. Emailing is one of the most used form of communication online. Emailing is most commonly used for business partners exchanging files and important information needed, the everyday people use it also for sending pictures and exchanging letters to family you haven't talked to in a while. From technology today and the rate of speed the Internet goes, if you send and email to someone that person will get that message in the matter of seconds. Also with the amount of money the Internet cost, which is nothing. Users can communicate less effectively to others. The Host Name basically identifies where the recipients email account or mailbox resides. The User I.D is and identifier for the recipient. Email servers and protocols basically are emails that are sent all over the Internet, and an email client might use a number of protocols such as P.O.P ( Post Office Protocol), SMTP ( Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), IMAP( Internet Message Access Protocol). In chapter 4 basically tells us how to receive and open mail that is sent to us, and how to reply and to send to others, printing is easy also. It tells you some simple in creating and composing an email. Sending a message with and attachment such as a picture, and important file or letter, you just click the little paperclip symbol and you should be able to add your picture in your email. Emails are easy and simple to use today with all the new technology and it will keep getting easier as the time goes on.

Career

I am majoring in Digital Media, the photography track. I am thinking about transferring to a 4 year college such as Ub or Buff state. My career goals contain opening up my own business with photography someday, and hopefully in the future and make something good out of that.

Technology that Ive studies so far in this course would help me alot. There are some different things that i did not know and now i do such as Jing. I did not know how to use jing until i got to this class. Jing  allows you to take photos without having to copy from the web or in my instance having a mac you would need to open the photo in photoshop and edit it and everything you need to do to it and that's a hassle to do everytime. So knowing this technology is a good think to know for the future.

Video and Social Media Search

Online Video is increasing, its a growing number and more and more users are accessing the Internet with broadband connections. Google, video, clip blast and yahoo and more are some websites that offer video clips. Mainly plagiarism when students don't have time to look up quick information in books or anywhere else. Some sites offer complete papers, test answer and assignments on the cast number of topics.

The consequences for plagiarism are serious, Instructors often can find out if you paper has been plagiarised or not. The writing style can differ if your plagiarising a paper, it can be more advanced for your writing type. All these signs of plagiarism can be detected. Plagiarism can be very serious and you could get in serious trouble for copying assignments off the Internet. If plagiarism is real serious it can contain the government and that's when you get fined or arrested. Now if you in school, you can get expelled and kicked out of school and never come back if that's up to the school board. Some school often screen plagiarism using a software to detect the plagiarism.

Searching The Web

The Search Process people rely on the web to find information quickly. As you learned choosing the best search tool this particular tool uses many different types of tools. Such as Google, stumble upon, Bing, and blinkx. In general when evaluating tools look for tools that are easy to use, return search results quickly, present the most relevant search results for a keyword search, clearly indicate paid or sponsored links in their search results list. In formulating the search query the next step process of searching the web is formulating a search query. To define a search query or question defines the information you seek. A query should include at least one keyword, a specific word that describes that information.

Searching keywords are entered in a search tool search text box. Examining the search tools actually perform a search and then display it in the search result list in carious ways. A targeted search seeks specific information using keywords, combinations. Authority the first step in determining of the information on the web page is to examine its authority. To do is determine who owns or sponsors the web site. Directories a human complied list of web pages organized by category is called directory. One of the first directories was created by Jerry Yang, and David filo, two doctoral students at Stanford, who began to keep a list of interesting web pages for the personal use. This process is sometimes called drilling down the dictionary categories search engine tips and shortcuts. Saving Online Information

Web pages can be saved in a variety of formats. Printing a web page is simple by clicking the print button on the command bar that will send to the default printer, and always that allows you to preview the page and edit the page all you like. There are many options to setting up a printed page, such as selecting the information which is the printed page, then dragging across it with the mouse and right clicking to print the open print box. Saving a web page is also very easy by just clicking the page button on the command bar and clicking "Save As" to open the save web page box should appear. The last step you would click the web archive file and just hit save, it will be pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Changing Browser options has many features and can be customized in various ways. For example, the browser window can be customized to show or hide the menu bar. Using the web: Risks and safeguards protecting your computer from Hackers is a very good thing, anyone connected to the Internet should take precautions to protects their computer from hackers. The definition of a hacker is an individual who uses his or her computer skills to access a network and the computers on that network without authorization. A firewall protects a computer or a network from unauthorized access by hackers. A firewall, which can be hardware or software, can examine network communications and them directly block or warn the user about those communications.

Feeding Your Internet

In Chapter 2, RSS Feeds informed me about a popular tool called the RSS reader. Basically what and RSS reader is, is a software that has features, used to subscribe to the web. RSS stands for (Really Simple Syndication) or ( Rich Site Summary). There are other RSS services that you could subscribe to such as Newzcrawler, or Sub headlines. It is very easy to subscribe to an RSS feed. Here are some steps to setting up an RSS Feed. You start a website such as AOL or Msn, and you click the tab button right underneath the address bar then you click the RSS button which is usually orange. When the box appears for you to subscribe to this feed and it will appear on your screen. Also i learned how to view and delete and RSS Feed, it is very simple to do so. To view your RSS feed by clicking the favorites center to view the list of feeds. To delete its just another simple process you have to learn. You can just right click on your feed you want and click delete and yes when told. Simple. The address bar and the drop down list allows you to revisit a web page just by clicking a URL in the address bar drop down list. Another feature that you could use would be the Auto Complete tool, this tool allows you to store your UR L's that you type in your address bar. Also you could store your UR L's in your Favorites and history tabs too. The address bar drop down list organizes its suggestions by " Auto Complete" Suggestions. "History" " Favorites" and there are different steps to navigate your drop down list. Suggests Sites is another feature that allows you to use your web browsing techniques to present suggestions for addition browsing. You can simply download the Suggested Sites feature and as soon as its on, your websites and information will be stored from and online service. There is also another feature you can click on which is the Suggested Sites Web Slice which is located on the favorites bar.

Using The History

This history button is another easy way to revisit a Web Site. You can display a list of these sites and pages by just clicking the history tab. You can organize your own view of the history list by clicking the view by the date button at the top of the list and selecting a different viewing order for example, by site, by most visited, or visited today. I think this tab is a good button to have because your computer automatically saves so if your computer shuts down or the battery is going dead you can always count on your history tab because you van go back to your website if you need to.

Address Bars

An IP Address in which stands for ( Internet Protocol Address). This address in terms also identifies your computer or device to the Internet. For example on IP address looks like this "69.32.133.79". Personal computers will mostly have a broadband connection or have a permanent IP Address that changes.

Chapter 2 Web Portals

A Web Portal is simply a special type of websites that basically offer online pages or maps or general purpose sites such as, Yahoo, Lycos, Msn and aol also contains email, search bar. My examples can be found inside the tourquise boxes, for example around AIM, family, Celebrity News, and Health and Diet.

Net Neutrality

What is net neutrality? Internet services should not be allowed to block, degrade or change extra for legal content and applications on the net. Yes i do care about this subject because there are some content that i would need to look up and study but if i cant get into them then i cant learn, and that blocks me from doing what i need to do. Google and Verizon are the two leading companies on the net. In early August those two started an argument for and "Open Internet". Charging for facebook or any other sites, that would be ridiculous because we already have to pay for the internet already so that would be a fight it self. I do not think the government should be charging anything. If anything i would think that the government also has internet so don't they think that they would have to pay for anything they charge also, so charging would not be doing themselves a favor at all.

Chapter 1

After reading chapter 1 "Discovering The Internet" i learned that time is changing and there are so many more things you have to learn. The internet is getting more complex and the world is interacting more and more to computers and technology. Using the internet has obviously changed the world through work, school, and communication skills. There are so many different people who use the internet to students to grandparents, all aspects of life. Basically there are many programs that are popular such as INTERNET EXPLORER, GOOGLE, FIREFOX, and many more. In the 1990's Tim Berner's Lee's develpoment caused Internet usage to expand greatly. Email is very common now that not everyone has a cell phone or maybe its just easier to use. There are many other ways to communicate on the web other than email. In the 1960's, started the worlds first computer networking system and 10,000 computers existed at that time. What i found interesting was that i always wondered when computers were brought up and how the internet was formed, it had to be a lot of work to figure out how to bring WI-FI to the entire world, its a pretty big process i would say. Its amazing to think about how everything is so connected to everyone, by just wires and technology.
